Japanese Host Family 4-21-13

Today i think it would be nice to talk about my family and how much the differ from my american family in america:) To start I wanted to say how much I really like my host family and I really love them and consider them as my real family. In america I have 3 younger brothers and 1 younger sister so I am the oldest and learned a lot of responsibly being the oldest and always having to show the example. At least I think I am pretty responsible.. i actually don't know I have never asked any one that before. Anyways back to my families my Japanese family I am with now I have 1 younger sister and one brother who is the same age as me but my birthday is actually before his so still makes me the oldest of the family:) As for my host siblings go we get along but we aren't as close as I would want to be. My family in america we are all very close and do everything together but here everyone is kinda independent. Which i think is good and bad in many reasons.
My sisters name is Kanan and she is 11 and she is supper shy and not out going, to pretty much anyone except for her mom. She always talks to her mom and seems happy, but she is always to her self when she isn't around. She does many activities besides school. Shes on a ski team, swimming, piano lessons and takes English school but she never talks English around me because she is to shy to. Which i think is a downer for her because she could really learn alot of English from me if she just wanted to talk to me. I have taught so many of my friends speak English and they all are really good now. She can be very shy but also very mean for a 11 year old. What i mean by this is my Japanese is not perfect but i know people can understand what i am trying to say because i can talk to people:) But my sister pretends she cant understand me because it isn't proper Japanese so when i do try talking to her she asks her mom what i said and them my mom say's pretty exactly what i said but maybe add a little more than i did, but i know she can understand me because i talk to kids younger than her and they can always understand what i want to say, but i dont let that get to me at all:) Sometimes she laughs at something i say and so if she is happy than i am happy:)
Now moving on to my host brother his name is Ryusuke and he is what we call an "yankii" and those are one of those trouble kids who are kinda mean and rude to others.... We get along but we usually don't do to much together because we both have totally different personalities and hobbies. He is into motorcycles and i am into sports and dancing:) He treats people really bad like his sister mom grandparents everyone besides me because maybe he knows that i would do something back if he tried to pick on me. But for one time we were in the car going somewhere and our grandpa was driving the car and he would honk the horn when people were riding there bikes and hit his grandpa if he didn't let him. He is really mean and not a nice guy, i do the best i can with trying to make him stop but i am not technically his brother so he wouldn't listen to me and i cant tell him what to do. I just be nice to everyone and treat everyone the way i wanted to be treated and i know that's really cheesy and old but its true:) He also smokes to which i really cant stand!!>:( hes 17 and smoking he has no idea how bad that is, and he also dropped out of school and has a job that he works pretty much everyday. I tried telling about why he needs to go to college so he can get a better job and raise a family if he wants to, but he didn't really care. Like i said we get along but i cant really tell him what to do..... And there alot more crazy stories and things i don't really like about him, but i don't want to talk only about him, because we get along but aren't really friends..:/
Now is my dad, my dad we haven't done a whole lot with him but i like him alot. When i first came he always talking Japanese to me and telling about different things and i like listening to him and talk to him. He is a huge skier, runner and golfer and he is taking me to do all those with him. Winter is about over now but we went skiing every week because he got me a season pass so i could go when ever i wanted with friends or family. So i did that and i had free rental to so i learned skiing and snowboarding while i was there which both are super fun and i would say anyone should go if you haven't:) Now we both are training for a upcoming marathon in a couple of months, but a while marathon i think i am going to die!!:O i haven't done any kind of sports or exercise  since i have been here so i don't know how i am going to do that but i will try:P but im sure our practice will pay of the first day we went and did a ran together we ran 10 kilometers which i don't know exactly in miles but that's around 6 miles and he ran the whole way with our stopping which really surprised me because i didn't think he was really the running type. He was also breathing really hard and i thought he was going to pass out but he still did it:) after we run the marathon he is going to teach me how to golf which i have never done before but it is really popular in japan for the guys to play golf so i will try:) and so me and my dad are pretty close but he is always at work and busy so i don't get to see him that much which is a little bummer. O and he works at a car dealer place where people can rent cars and stuff like that:)
Now final and best member of my family now is my MOM!!:) My host mom is just the best and i really consider her my second real mom. I can tell her everything and any problems i have. We are always silly around each other like in the car a song will come on that we both know (usually american music) and we both are just jamming in the car and singing and dancing and its great!!! She really surprised me because most Japanese girls here are supper shy ( which i really hate....) but she isn't at all, shes so funny:) Her cooking is great and taste and we always make jokes about each other to. For a example she know all the american 70 and 80 songs so i always make fun of her age, but when we are in the car and i am singing to a american song. She will tell me that my English is amazing but my Singing is really bad, so she is a real joker:P she can speak English too so she always helps me understand Japanese i have taught her alot of English:)  we go shopping tomorrow and we make each other laugh all the time!! And i feel like there is so much more to talk about my mom but she is just super great, like a best friend to me and i love her:) Shes as cool as my real mom in america, and she is the best. That's pretty much all about  my family and if there are any questions or things i might of left out please feel free to ask or tell me thank you and hope you enjoyed:)

  1. Love the blog entry, I'm not really close at all to my family so I'm hoping that my host family and I become really connected to them. Why are Japanese girls so typically shy? :o I'm pretty outgoing so I don't know how that is going to connect :p I was told from a rebound exchange student from japan that the use of sarcasm satire isn't understood, is that really so? Also whats the music (american) music they play on the radio and stuff? Is it the 70s, 80s stuff that your host mother knew? xD

    1. Are you a exchange student to? if so where? and I am not a hundred percent sure why Japanese girl are shy, i asked my host mom and she said that its just Japanese personality, but i am sure there's more to it then that. Like i have a american girl exchange friend and at her school all the boys are to shy to talk to her. So its either foreigners people they are nervous from or its just the thought of them talking that they are scared of. I feel like Japanese are really close to them selfs and the people close to them they just aren't out going and really trying to meet new people like american people are in my opinion. But i still don't understand it, its just their culture and i cant say its wrong either:) Now moving on Yes sarcasm is not used in Japan at all, they take everything so seriously, only my closest friends and family get my personality and sarcasm but anyone else its really hard to use. And my cool host mother listened to all the 70's to 80's songs this ranges from beetles to guns and roses, if you know them, she really likes all songs though to many to list. Hope i answered all your questions and thanx for the comment:)
